Frequently Asked Questions

Questions about our policies

  • Do you offer telehealth? How does it work?

We offer telehealth as an option for all appointments.

We utilize a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform, through your Spruce Health. Please use this link to sign up. https://spruce.care/RootedInsightsPLC

All you need is a secure internet connection, a private location, and to be in the state of Iowa for your appointment. Your provider will call you via video call at the time of your appointment.

  • What if I need to cancel an appointment?

We value your time and strive to ensure that clients are able to be seen in a timely matter.

You may cancel your appointment via secure messaging through the client portal or by calling or texting 515.446.7284.

In order to do that, we request 24 hours cancellation notice to ensure that we can contact individuals who are on the cancellation list with adequate time.

There is a $25 late cancel fee if appointment is cancelled with less than 24 hour notice. If you do not present for your appointment within 10 minutes of the start time and have not notified our offices that you are unable to attend, the appointment will be considered missed and your card on file will be charged the missed apopintment fee of $150.

  • How much does therapy cost?

Making the commitment to therapy means making a commitment and an investment in yourself. While most insurances do cover psychiatric care, it is important to contact your insurance provider to determine your out-of-pocket expense. For out-of-network or out-of-pocket fees, please inquire using the contact us button and one of our staff will respond to your inquiry within two business days.

  • Do you accept insurance?

We accept Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare, UMR, Optum, Multiplan and Midlands Choice participating network plans,  as well as Private Pay.  Please inquire for more information.

We are not in network with Aetna, Medicare, or Medicaid plans.

  • What is the No Surprises Act

The No Surprises Act was implemented by congress in January of 2022 to protect people covered under group and individual health plans from receiving surprise medical bills when they receive services from an out of network provider. Providers are required to provide private pay and client's with out of network insurance a Good Faith Estimate at the start of services.

  • When will I be billed?

We have a 'zero balance' policy, therefore payments are processed at time of service or missed appointment or cancelled appointment. Once insurance has processed your visit and determined monies owed, we process the money owed with your card on file and you will receive a receipt reflecting the payment applied.

Due to our small office size, we require a card on file in order to streamline the billing process so we may spend more time providing you the care you deserve.

  • How is your practice handling COVID-19?

At Rooted Insights, we follow CDC recommendations

We also offer telehealth services. We ask that if you are feeling sick or have been exposed to COVID-19 that you contact our offices to change your appointment to telehealth.

Questions about our practice

  • How do I make an appointment?

New clients: You can submit a new patient request here.  You will receive a response within two business days of your request during our administrative hours.

Returning clients: You may utilize the secure client portal to request an appointment with your clinician.

  • When can I expect a return call?

We aim to return all phone calls within two business days.

  • Why can't I reach a person right away when I call?

Our office is a small, close knit mental health practice. We prefer to have licensed mental health counselors available to answer questions related to your mental health and scheduling of mental health services. At Rooted Insights your requests will be handled by a licensed mental health professional, ensuring that we provide the best care and experience possible.

  • Where are you located?

Our Urbandale office is located at 2570 106th St, Ste E in Urbandale, IA. We happily offer in person services to residents around the Urbandale and Des Moines metro, and telehealth services to residents throughout the state of Iowa.

When visiting, you will find our office located on the lower level in the rear of the building (property backs up to the Living History Farms).

  • What is holistic psychotherapy?

We use the words holistic, comprehensive, and integrative to describe the kind of therapy we offer at Rooted Insights. It means we treat each client as a human and meet each client where they are in their mental health journey. We take a cutting-edge approach to therapy which is tailored to each client.

  • What is a Counselor?

Licensed Mental Health Counselors and Licensed Independent Social Workers are highly trained in assessing, diagnosing, treating, and preventing mental illness.

They have met all of the state requirements to hold and maintain a professional license. The process of getting licensed takes years of education, thousands of clinical hours of experience, and considerable follow-through.

Questions about the process

  • What happens in therapy?

Each therapy experience is a unique one. You will be in a safe and judgement-free space.

We strive to be approachable, honest, and meet you where you are. We are here to help you navigate life's challenges, grow, and live a full and meaningful life.

In your sessions, we won’t just sit and nod. While listening is an important part, your therapist will also ask questions and share insights.

Often times your therapist, in collaboration with you, will assign homework and share valuable insights. The work you put in matters and will impact your progress in treatment.

  • What can I expect from my first session?

At your first session your therapist will go over the forms you signed and then ask you something like, ‘so what brings you in today?”

From there, we start a conversation. Your therapist will ask questions so they can get a sense of who you are and what your life looks like.

Don't feel like you have to come in with a list of things to talk about, although it's  fine if you do. Your therapist will help guide the conversation and tailor the session based on your unique circumstances and goals.

  • Am I a good candidate for therapy?

We strongly believe therapy is for everyone.

Whether you’re looking to relieve anxiety, help process grief, reduce symptoms of mental illness, or increase daily well-being. There is space for you here.

  • How long does therapy last?

Each client we work with has a unique background and a unique set of goals. Therefore, the time spent in therapy can differ greatly between individuals. Some clients see progress sooner, others prefer to work more slowly and deliberately.

In either case, we're committed to providing you or your child the tools and preparation to equip you beyond your sessions.

  • What if I don't feel like my therapist is a good fit?

Feeling comfortable with your therapist is an important part of the process, and if you don't find that with one of our therapists, that's OK!

We have a number of therapists in our practice who might be a better fit, and if not, we would be happy to recommend you to other professionals in the area.
